Polly's Work Experience Journey

Written by Polly

I am a first-year college student who studies Art craft and design at QMC, I was given the opportunity to experience designing and making silver jewellery at Petra's and it was an incredibly unique and enjoyable learning experience.

The environment was so welcoming, and everyone was so supportive and had constant encouragement for me which helped me to feel as though I could ask questions and ask for help when I needed throughout the day.

I started my day by drafting and designing sketched ideas for a wax carved Pebble Collection, primarily pendants, inspired by natural forms and structures. I decided to go with the theme of fungi due to the varied organic shapes available to explore. I then drew some finalized designs and began to work on carving wax to be used as a mould for silver.

I got to experience all parts of the creative process which made the day a huge opportunity for me to try new things I'd never done before. It was a lovely day, and it was very interesting to explore jewellery making techniques in such a friendly environment.
