How Much Does a Bespoke Ring Cost?
One of the first questions we're often asked when someone is thinking about having a ring made is:
"How much will it cost?"
And the honest answer is: it depends.
We've created bespoke pieces from around £350 to £20,000+, so there isn't one set price for a bespoke ring.
The good news is that you don't need to know exactly what you want to spend before you come and see us. That's part of what we're here for.
We'll talk through your ideas, understand what you're looking to create and, most importantly, work with your budget to explore what's possible.
Bespoke Doesn't Have to Mean One Way of Making
There are lots of different ways we can create a bespoke piece, and the way a ring is made can have a significant impact on the final cost.
Handmade from Scratch
For some designs, the best option is to have the entire piece handmade by one of our goldsmiths.
This allows us to create something completely from scratch, with every element shaped and formed specifically for your design.
It's a wonderful option for more intricate or highly individual pieces, but naturally involves more goldsmithing time.
Using Ready-Made Elements
For some designs, we can use elements that have already been made, such as a ring shank or a setting, and then adapt them to create your finished piece.
This can be a more cost-effective way of achieving a bespoke look without having every part made from scratch.
Casting Your Design
Another option is to create your design using casting.
Your design is created as a model before being cast into your chosen metal. This can be particularly useful for certain shapes and styles and can sometimes offer a more cost-effective route than entirely hand making the piece.
Our designers and goldsmiths will advise you on which method will work best for your design and budget.
What About Your Own Gold or Stones?
If you have jewellery sitting in a jewellery box, we can also explore whether your existing gold, platinum, silver or gemstones could be incorporated into your new piece.
Using your own materials can sometimes help with the overall cost, as well as giving your new jewellery an extra layer of meaning.
However, not all old jewellery is suitable for melting and reusing, so we'll always assess your metal first and explain the options available to you.
Sometimes the best way forward is to use your existing jewellery as part of the budget rather than directly melting it into the new piece.
Choosing Your Metal
The metal you choose will also have an impact on the cost.
For a more intricate or bespoke design, we can explore different options such as 9ct gold or silver to help achieve the look you're after within your budget.
For simpler designs, particularly wedding bands, there are also alternative metals such as tungsten and titanium which can offer a more cost-effective option while still creating a strong, beautifully finished ring.
The important thing is that we understand what you're trying to achieve. We can then talk you through the options rather than simply starting with the most expensive route.
Your Budget Comes First
We don't believe in designing your dream ring and then telling you the price afterwards.
Instead, we'll talk about your budget from the beginning and work with you to understand what can be achieved within it.
Perhaps you have a particular gemstone you'd love to include, but need to make savings elsewhere in the design.
Maybe you'd like a completely handmade ring but are happy to choose a simpler design.
Or perhaps you're open to different metals or manufacturing methods if it means creating the style you love at a price you're comfortable with.
There are often several ways to approach the same idea.
Our job is to help you understand those options.
So, How Much Should I Budget?
There isn't a magic number.
We've made bespoke jewellery for around £300, as well as commissions worth £20,000 and beyond. The difference isn't simply about how "bespoke" one piece is compared with another. The metal, gemstones, complexity of the design, manufacturing method and amount of goldsmithing involved can all influence the final cost.
That's why we prefer to have a conversation rather than give you a generic price per ring.
