Why We Usually Recommend Matching Metals
One piece of advice we often give is to choose a wedding band made from the same metal as your engagement ring.
This is because different precious metals wear at different rates and have different hardness characteristics. As your engagement ring and wedding ring sit together every day, a harder metal can gradually wear against a softer one over time.
For example, pairing a platinum ring with a gold ring isn't necessarily wrong, but it can result in one ring wearing differently to the other. By choosing the same metal for both rings, they tend to age together more evenly and maintain a more harmonious appearance.
Of course, there are always exceptions. Some customers prefer the contrast of mixed metals: in these cases, we'll talk you through the pros and cons so you can make an informed decision.
