Jenna’s Hen Do Workshop Class
Petra Jewellery welcomed its very first hen party workshop last week, as bride-to-be Jenna chose a completely different way to celebrate ahead of her wedding - a private silver jewellery making experience with her closest friends and family.
Rather than the usual hen do traditions, Jenna spent the afternoon with Chloe, Ruby, Liz, Clare and Jane, designing and creating handmade silver pendants from scratch using traditional silversmithing techniques.
The group arrived and settled in with a glass of fizz before Jo introduced the workshop, guiding everyone through how a simple square of silver would be transformed into a finished, wearable piece of jewellery.
Every piece began with a silver square sheet and a design.
Some guests arrived full of ideas already formed, while others took time sketching and refining their concepts. Clare came particularly well prepared with pre-made templates!
Once designs were finalised, they were carefully glued onto sheets of silver, ready to be cut out by hand using traditional jeweller’s saws.
There was a mix of concentration and laughter around the benches, as everyone got to grips with the precision required. Cutting silver by hand proved both satisfying and more challenging than expected…especially once the prosecco had made its appearance!
As the workshop progressed, the group explored a range of jewellery making techniques including filing edges smooth, adding hammered textures, stamping detail into the silver, and shaping each pendant into its final form.
The session was fully hands-on, giving everyone the opportunity to experience real silversmithing methods and create something entirely personal from start to finish.
For a few hours, wedding planning took a back seat. There were no seating plans or timelines - just time spent together, focused on creativity and conversation.
Our lovely designer, Jo guided the group throughout the afternoon, offering support where needed while ensuring each piece retained its handmade character. Once complete, each pendant was professionally drilled and polished by goldsmith Behzad, ready to be worn as pendants.
By the end of the workshop, finished pieces were being shared around the table and immediately tried on.
Each pendant was completely unique, reflecting the individual style of its maker. What began as simple sheets of silver had been transformed into meaningful keepsakes connected to an important moment in time.
One of the standout moments of the day came when Jane, mother of the groom, shared that she plans to wear her pendant on the wedding day itself!
“I came in with no expectations, and no talent and I’ve left with a lovely piece of Jewellery so thank you!”
Rather than a single-use celebration, the group left with handmade jewellery that will continue to hold memories long after the wedding day - not just photographs, but wearable pieces of a shared experience.
The workshop highlighted a growing trend for more meaningful, creative hen party experiences.
For those looking for an alternative hen do idea, a private jewellery making workshop offers a relaxed, creative and memorable way to celebrate, bringing people together to make something truly personal.
