Sapphire Viewing Event 2024

September was all about sapphires and you might be quite surprised to see the range of beautiful colours that sapphire can come in…

We invited a group of Petra Jewellery VIPs to come along to the cottage to have a look at a beautiful hand picked selection of truly one-of-a-kind stones and learn a little about them.

sapphires ARE THE BIRTHSTONE FOR september AND GIFTED FOR A 45TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Our lovely gemstone supplier sent us a selection of gorgeous sapphires after a chat about what we were after…we wanted to see the full spectrum of colour to really inspire our customers and we ended up with an extraordinary collection.

We had a mix of shapes, colours and shades as well as sizes. We are very lucky to have such a broad selection of almost any gemstone available to us which we can show to you in design appointments and events.

Jo had written a presentation all about the properties of sapphires and why they work so well in all kinds of jewellery. Sapphires are relatively hard wearing stones, beaten only by diamonds on the mohs hardness scale. They come in a unrivalled range of colours from vivid orange-red to beautiful purples and pinks and of course…blue!

Our guests got to learn how to use a pair of tweezers and a jewellers loupe to look at the stones properly and understand the importance of seeing a gemstone in person when buying jewellery.

They could see the facets and inclusions under the x10 magnification. We love sharing our passion for gemstones and all the geeky stuff with you and encourage you to ask as many questions as you’d like!

We had a very special piece in our collection for this event…a rare padparadscha sapphire. These are a pinky/peachy colour and typically found in sizes of around 1-2ct so anything bigger is very rare and desirable. We had this beautiful 3.03ct elongated cushion shape which would cost around £18,000.

They are found in Sri Lanka and their name is derived from Padmaraga meaning “Lotus Blossom”.

Our guests loved learning about the different colours, shapes and origins of sapphires and even got to take home a loupe of their own and a gift bag with an invitation to one of our experiences.

For the rest of September we will still have a special collection of beautiful sapphires for you to come and have a look at in your very own Private Viewing Experience. It’s a fun way to get some one-on-one guidance in having a bespoke piece of jewellery made and learn all about sapphires! We will also have some beautiful opals in for the month of October if that’s more your cup of tea!
