Jenny's bespoke eternity ring

At Petra Jewellery, one of the questions we’re often asked is: what exactly is an eternity ring?

Traditionally, it marked the arrival of a couple’s first child, but we see it a little differently. For us, an eternity ring is a beautiful way to celebrate any meaningful milestone in your journey together. And just as every story is unique, we believe the design doesn’t have to follow tradition either: eternity rings don’t always need to be a classic stone-set band.

When Jenny and Phillip joined us in our welcoming design suite in Basingstoke for a special Champagne Design Experience with our designer Sarah, Jenny already knew she wanted something a little different.

A lover of emeralds, Jenny was drawn to incorporating that rich green hue into her eternity ring. After sharing her inspiration, Sarah carefully curated a selection of samples for her to explore, giving Jenny the chance to try on different styles and discover what felt just right in terms of profile and shape.

It was the halo setting, however, that truly captured her heart. Perfect for those who love to make a statement, it offers that extra touch of brilliance, an ideal choice for anyone who embraces a little more sparkle in their jewellery.

Once Jenny had fallen in love with the halo style, Sarah guided her through a selection of stone shapes and sizes, helping her refine the design. Together, they chose a stunning marquise-cut emerald, beautifully framed by a delicate halo of round brilliant-cut diamonds.

Working closely with our trusted gemstone supplier in Hatton Garden, Sarah sourced a truly exceptional emerald, before finalising every detail of the design. From there, it was passed to our master goldsmith, Behzad, who was tasked with bringing the piece to life with his expert craftsmanship.

Behzad thoroughly enjoyed crafting this piece. So much so, he put together a gorgeous behind the scenes film of the construction of Jenny’s ring. You can watch it here:

On making Jenny’s ring, Behzad said this: “Working with platinum is always a pleasure, but this piece was particularly special. The marquise-cut emerald immediately stood out to me - green has always been a favourite of mine, and there’s something incredibly captivating about that tone in this shape.

One of the aspects I enjoyed most was developing the structure of the gallery. It’s a unique construction, designed not only to enhance the beauty of the stones but also to ensure strength and longevity.

The result is a piece that feels both refined and robust - distinctive in its design, and unmistakably Petra in its quality and character.”

Once the ring had been hallmarked at the London Assay Office and the stones expertly set by our skilled workshop, it received its final clean and polish, ready for Jenny and Phillip to collect.

They were absolutely delighted with the finished piece, agreeing that it had exceeded their expectations.
