Debbie
Debbie came to see us during very sad circumstances.
Her horse had very sadly passed away, and she had some of his hair which she wanted set into a piece of jewellery to keep him with her forever.
During a very emotional initial appointment, she explained that she wanted it set into a design made of his actual horse shoe.
After several design appointments with the team, we agreed on the size and metal we wanted to use, and drew up a design for Debbie. It was so important that we got this right as once the hair is set into the resin it is very hard to alter the design.
Our goldsmith began with making the pendant, taking care to match the horse shoe exactly, and then Debbie dropped in the hair that she and her daughter plaited together ready to be set.
Our goldsmith Behzad then got to work setting the horse hair into the pendant. It was a very time consuming process as each layer of resin needed to set for 12 hours before the next layer was added to make it completely secure.
Once the hair was fully set, we got to work with the finishing touches. We added the chain, hallmarked the piece as gold and polished it to finish.
As you can see in the below image, we made sure when making the horseshoe that we matched the drilling holes exactly, to make it an exact replica of the original shoe. So one side had the hair set in, and the other is the drilled side of the horse shoe.
“Making memorial jewellery is one of my favourite designs to do. Going on this emotional journey with our customers and ensuring that they have their late family member or friend with them at the end is the most rewarding thing you can image. It was a pleasure working with Debbie. ”
