Emily’s Soft Curved Wedding Band
There’s something rather special about the moment a wedding ring leaves our workshop for the final time. After weeks of careful making, countless small decisions and several pairs of expert hands, it’s no longer just a piece of jewellery - it’s the ring that will be there when you say, “I do.”
With her wedding day on 6 September getting closer, Emily wanted a wedding band that would sit perfectly alongside her engagement ring - something delicate and understated, but with little details that made it completely hers.
And so the designing began.
After the design was finalised, the next step was in the hands of our expert goldsmith Sam, who carefully melted down the 18ct white gold and began shaping it into Emily’s wedding band.
Rather than making a traditional straight band, the design called for a soft, gentle curve. This was carefully formed to follow the shape of Emily’s engagement ring, so that the two rings would sit beautifully together.
Once all the making and finishing was complete, the ring was sent to the Assay Office to be hallmarked.
Once the shape was right and the ring was hallmark, the band was prepared for the tiny details that would make it sparkle.
The ring then made its way to our expert setters, Gavin and Lorraine.
They carefully set each diamond flush into the white gold, creating a delicate line of sparkle.
Flush setting was chosen to keep the diamonds neat and close to the surface of the band, giving Emily that subtle glimmer without taking away from the simplicity of the design.
At this stage, the ring was starting to look like the wedding band Emily had imagined - but there was still one very personal detail to come.
Gavin and Lorraine’s final role was to then hand engraved the delicate floral star design into the band.
This is the kind of detail that can be easy to overlook at first glance, but makes the ring feel so much more personal. Every line is carefully engraved by hand, giving the finished piece a sense of individuality that you simply can't get from a mass-produced ring.
It then made its way back to Petra Jewellery and we could then tell Emily the words she'd been waiting to hear…
The ring was ready!
Throughout the process, Emily had regularly checked in to see how her wedding band was coming along. With her wedding day approaching, she had followed its journey from the first stages of making right through to the final checks.
So when she finally came in to collect it, there was something incredibly lovely about seeing her reaction.
All those individual stages - the melting and shaping, the tiny diamonds, the hand engraving, the hallmark = had come together in one very special ring.
And now, after all that careful work, Emily has her wedding band ready for the moment she's been waiting for…
