Joanne's Red Gemstone Ring
Joanne was looking for a new piece of red jewellery, but she wasn't quite sure what she wanted to create. So, when the opportunity came up to join our Senior Designer and Gemstone Expert, Abi, for our virtual Red Gemstone Event last year, she knew it was the perfect place to start.
During the Zoom presentation, Joanne explored a beautiful selection of red gemstones, including garnets, rubies, tourmalines and spinels. Seeing the different colours, tones and characters of each gemstone helped her begin to narrow down what she was drawn to.
Joanne also had some leftover gold from a beautiful pendant we'd previously made for her, and she knew she wanted to give this sentimental material a new lease of life.
She booked a design appointment with Abi, where they explored a few different possibilities before settling on a bubble ring featuring rubover set red and pink gemstones.
As the ring was going to be cast rather than handmade, Abi requested a CAD design from our workshop. This gave Joanne the opportunity to see how the finished ring could look before production began and make sure she was happy with the overall shape and proportions.
Then came the fun part...
Abi hand picked a selection of garnets, rubies and sapphires, carefully considering the different colours and tones to create the effect they had in mind. After trying a couple of different combinations, Joanne and Abi found the perfect selection of gemstones for the ring.
Once Joanne was happy with the final design, the ring was sent to our CAD workshop for casting and setting.
The finished piece brought together a wonderfully unique collection of colourful gemstones with Joanne's sentimental gold, creating a ring that was completely individual to her.
And, most importantly, Joanne was absolutely delighted with the finished result.
A beautiful new piece of jewellery, a collection of carefully chosen gemstones and gold with its own story to tell.
