Lesley's bespoke engagement ring
At Petra Jewellery, we believe an engagement ring should feel deeply personal: a reflection of not only your style, but your story together. For Lesley and Ian, that meant creating a piece that felt contemporary, elegant, and designed to stand the test of time.
When the couple joined us in our welcoming Creative Suite in Basingstoke for a Champagne Design Experience with our designer Sarah, Lesley already had a very clear vision in mind. She wanted something modern and distinctive, yet timeless enough to cherish forever. Most importantly, it needed to feel beautiful but also robust and effortlessly wearable every day.
After discussing their ideas with Sarah, the pair explored different settings and proportions before refining the design into something truly striking. Together, they chose a stunning two-carat oval lab-grown diamond, set horizontally in an elegant east-west orientation: a contemporary twist on a classic shape that immediately captured Lesley’s heart.
To complement the clean lines of the diamond, Sarah recommended a simple yet substantial platinum band with a sleek bezel setting. The result was a ring with a wonderfully modern feel, while still retaining the timeless elegance Petra Jewellery is known for. The bezel setting not only enhanced the contemporary aesthetic Lesley loved, but also provided the durability and practicality she was looking for in an engagement ring she could wear and enjoy every day.
Once every detail of the design had been finalised, the commission was passed to our master goldsmith, Behzad, who handcrafted the piece in our workshop with exceptional care and precision.
Behzad particularly enjoyed bringing this design to life, appreciating the balance between bold simplicity and refined craftsmanship. The east-west setting gave the ring a fresh, architectural feel, while the platinum bezel construction required meticulous attention to detail to achieve the seamless finish the design deserved.
Originally quoted at eight weeks, the team worked incredibly hard to complete the ring in just five, ensuring Lesley and Ian had it in time for their engagement party celebrations.
When the couple finally returned to collect the finished piece, they were absolutely thrilled with the result. The ring perfectly captured everything Lesley had envisioned: contemporary yet timeless, robust yet elegant, and completely unique to their story together.
