Alice's coloured diamond ring
Alice had collected some beautiful, one-of-a-kind coloured diamonds over a few years and wanted to do something special with them…
“I’ve always loved natural coloured diamonds and over a number of years had assembled a small collection, with the aim of one day having them made into a ring. I knew I wanted something spectacular, that would also be easy to wear. Not as straightforward as it might sound! ”
As soon as Alice got out her beautiful coloured diamonds, I knew this was going to be an especially fun job as I share her love of unique diamonds!
“I had some thoughts about a design, but no idea if it would work in practice! Initially I took my ideas with a few designers, but none gave me the confidence that they could produce a final piece that was going to be anything like my dream. I knew that with multiple colours, shapes and sizes of stones, to achieve the smooth, finger-hugging, aesthetically pleasing design I had envisioned was clearly going to be difficult - but surely it wasn’t impossible?”
“I was almost at the point of giving up when I came across a case study of a ring design that had been done by Petra Jewellery in Basingstoke. The patient and thorough approach taken by Rosie, the designer, really appealed to me, and I was impressed by the feedback from the client, who was clearly and understandably delighted with her lovely ring. ”
“So an appointment was arranged and off I went with my precious stones mounted up on a (clean!) silicone earplug in the rough design that I had in mind. Rosie was brilliant from that first meeting...she instantly ‘got’ what I wanted. Whilst acknowledging that it would be a complex job, I was very reassured when Rosie said there was no reason why it couldn’t be done...over a number of follow-up visits the design was tweaked and refined to achieve the perfect balance of ‘wow’ and wearability.”
I drew out an initial design with Alice with a rough layout of the stones, some small tweaks had to be made to get everything fitting as well as getting the colours of the diamonds to look the best together…then I asked our CAD team to put together a 3D mockup so we could see it come to life!
From the first CAD, Alice and I could see what changes needed to be made such as altering depths and widths so that the ring would sit comfortably as well as moving diamonds around to make the perfect “random” effect (which is not easy to achieve!).
“Nothing was too much trouble for Rosie, and at no point did she try and rush me into making a final decision. She was as keen as me to achieve the very best outcome, and with her flair for design and style, we did just that. ”
Seeing the ring once it had been polished was incredible, I was a little nervous after all the work we had put in…but that all fell away when I saw it and I couldn’t wait for Alice to see it!
“I am delighted with my new ring. The layout is beautifully balanced, the craftsmanship is first-class and the result comfortable and easy to wear, exactly what I wanted.
It was an absolute pleasure going through the process, from start to finish and I can’t wait for my next project with Rosie to begin!”
