David and son Paul's signet rings
David first got in touch with us after seeing the work we’d done to support St. Michael’s Hospice. The charity is very close to his heart, they were a huge source of support to him and his family during his wife’s illness. David knew he wanted to come to Petra and see what we could do with his late wife’s jewellery.
He came in to see Jo, one of our designers, and the two of them sat down for a relaxed chat about the collection his wife had left behind. David wasn’t sure what was what, but he knew he wanted to do something meaningful with it and he needed some help to sort through it all.
Jo carefully went through the jewellery, identifying which pieces were gold and helping him understand what might be possible. Together, they came up with the idea of crafting a pair of signet rings: one for David to wear himself, and one for his son, Paul.
Although Paul wasn’t able to attend the consultation as he lives in America, Jo was able to include him in the design process, to create two bespoke signet rings, each one a little different, but deeply personal for them both.
After the design were agreed and that we were going to use the gold. it was given to Behzad to create the two rings.

So Behzad started with a block or wax which he carved in to the shapes of the rings.

He then melted the gold ready for the pour into the form.

The rings needed to be clean, shaped and polished before the next step.
The rings were then hallmarked, engraved and Paul’s ring had a diamond set in the centre of a compass.

David then came in with his brother in-law Alan to collect both rings, and it ment so much to them both.
The story doesn’t end there either!
As David decided the jewellery and left over gold from his rings was to be donated to St Micheal’s hospice, so we sorted through what was left and donated it on his behalf.
Now all that was left is for David to give Paul his ring .
“Thanks again for all the help with the design of the rings and seeing us - my brother in law Alan became very emotional especially because the mixture of gold was from various family members he knew.”
