Joel
Joel’s mum Kim came to see our designer Natalie to discuss a ring design.
Her son Joel’s 21st birthday was coming up and she wanted to gift him something really special.
His grandfather had left his uncle a gorgeous tourmaline signet ring that he adored, so we decided to make a replica of it but with it’s own twist.
The overall design was relatively simple as we were making a replica of an existing ring, however sourcing the stone was not!
Tourmalines in this shape are very difficult to come by, and we wanted it to be specifically mined in a certain part of the world which made it a little bit trickier. But with the help of our gemstone dealer Keith, we finally found the perfect stone.
Our in house goldsmith Behzad then got to work creating this incredible bespoke piece. He used a clay casting method to build the piece, ensuring that it was as close to the original as possible.
We then sent the ring to our stone cutter to cut the stone to fit the ring perfectly, and then to our hand engraver.
Our hand engraver Ian engraved these two South African flowers onto the bottom of the shank. This, along with the stone, makes this ring totally unique.
