Lizzie's Art Deco emerald engagement ring
Thomas had a really good idea of what his partner, Lizzie, wanted in an engagement ring.
He came to us with some images of rings she liked, what styles she preferred including the fact that she wanted an emerald incorporated.
Because we work with some fantastic gemstone experts, we were able to give them a vague idea of what colour, shape and size we wanted and they sent us a beautiful selection for Thomas to see.
Our initial design was to feature an elongated emerald cut emerald in the centre with three diamonds tapering in size each side to create this beautiful Art Deco arrangement.
However, as Lizzie has a fairly small finger size, we decided to only have two diamonds either side instead so that the ring was more comfortable for her to wear as well as to avoid the smallest diamonds disappearing at the edges.
The ring was drawn out to scale and we laid the stones out so that we could picture the finished piece. We really enjoy this part as we get to play around with arrangement, setting styles and adding in small but personal details!
Then, we decided to have a CAD made to blow up the minute details as well as to decide on small (but important) factors such as making the ring fit against a plain wedding band and how to set the central stone.
You can see that we decided to claw set the central emerald to show it off a little more and get it to stand out on its own. The rest of the diamonds are bar set, which is a style of setting that lends itself really well to modern Art Deco designs.
Once Thomas had picked out the stones and was happy with the design, we were able to start production. A commission usually takes around 6-8 weeks, but you can see it was well worth the wait…
Thomas was really please with the finished ring and, when he popped the question, so was Lizzie!
