Malcom
Malcom came in to see the team before Christmas with a beautiful amethyst that he wanted to have made into a bespoke piece of jewellery to give to his wife for christmas.
The amethyst was too big to be set into a ring or a pendant. So, with help from the designers, we came up with the idea of making a Celtic knot inspired brooch, with the amethyst set into the centre.
Once the design was finalised, it was given to our master goldsmith, Behzad, to start work on this truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.
Behzad started off by making the outer frame of the cross, which he later lined with hand plaited silver Celtic style plaits.
It was really important from a goldsmith perspective to ensure that there was an even amount of tension throughout the silver plaits so that the wires would hold their shape when attached to their frame.
The finished piece is a modern take on a traditional piece of jewellery and a beautiful way to showcase larger, precious gemstones.
Malcom was over the moon with the finished brooch, as was his wife!
