Remodelled sapphire engagement ring
Our customer brought in a beautiful sapphire and diamond engagement ring that was in some need of repair.
The claws holding in the stones were rather worn and the sapphire had some significant surface damage. They discussed different options on how to make the ring more hardwearing with Abi, who suggested having the stones re-set in a rubover setting.
They liked the idea of a platinum collet with a rubover setting to hold the stones. Platinum is good for a collet as it is incredibly strong and durable and a rubover setting means the setting it unlikely to get caught and a stone be lost.
Abi also ordered in a selection of new sapphires to choose a new centre stone from, selecting a blue coloured round cut.
The original collet was then removed from the ring shank and a new rubover setting was made out of platinum.
The new sapphire, along with the two original diamonds were then set into the new collet and the ring was ready to go!
And it was perfect!
