Ruth's remodelled diamond stacking ring design
Ruth had quite a few diamonds that needed a good home - in a new design she could wear and enjoy on a daily basis!
It was a challenge to come up with a design concept where they could all be used and sit together nicely in a piece that then didn’t feel to bulky on her finger. We soon came up with the stacking ring concept, with rubover settings and just had the layout to work out.
The first thing we did was unset Ruth’s diamonds from her various pieces of jewellery, some of which were inhierited and really special to her. You can see from the picture above they were different sizes and qualities but they did all clean up really well in the sonic cleaner later.
We made great progress at this stage and Ruth left having really helped me understand what she like and I follwoed up with some design sketches via What’s app later the next day.
Ruth came in for her second visit with her husband Pete and daughter Hope as they too were very emotionally invested in the design and genuinely seemed to enjoy being involved in the design journey, which is lovely, we love getting everyone involved!
We went through several variations of the layout until we all happy it looked good and also worked physically.
Ruth was really involved in the design process which helped, she was great at telling us what she liked and came up with suggestions too. Sometimes it takes a few visits to get a design just right and it’s helpful for both us as the designers and you as the customer to have the chance to go away and think about it all too!
We communicated quite a bit via Whats App with was great and Ruth also came in to check the final layout with us as well. It’s really nice when a customer has the option to have a play with some tweezers and move her own stones around a bit too. It means you really understand some of the challenges but also feel part of the porcess too.
Below you can see the finished ring, well: three rings actually that are separte but sit perfectly next to each other too. They can be worn together or indepedantly which can be really useful sometimes for different occassions and outfits.
One of the things that were really important to Ruth were that the three diamonds from her original engagement ring were still together on one band on their own.
We managed to achieve this and tuck all her other diamonds in around them. They are set in clean rubover settings which are really contemporary and robust as well. This is a ring she can wear every day and not worry about it getting caught on things.
Ruth was delighted with her finished ring which we delivered as a surpsie secretly to Pete on the morning of her 50th birthday. It was a really tight deadline for the manufacture process and we didn’t want to rush the design stage so it all worked out wonderfully.
