Ella’s family afternoon tea experience

There’s something incredibly special about creating a bespoke jewellery commission using your own gold and stones, especially when it brings generations together… and involves a delicious afternoon tea!

Ella came to Petra Jewellery with her mum and nan, looking to create a special piece she could treasure for a lifetime.

They joined Jo for one of our signature Afternoon Tea Design Appointments, bringing with them a collection of inherited gold jewellery rich with family history.

Moments like this are at the very heart of what we do - transforming sentimental jewellery into beautifully crafted, wearable heirlooms through thoughtful design, expert craftsmanship and genuine care.

With tea poured, scones at the ready and jewellery laid out, Ella and her family spent a relaxed afternoon with our designer Jo, talking through ideas, shapes and stones that would suit her style while honouring the sentimental materials.

As the sketches evolved, Ella found herself drawn to the rich, vibrant green of Tsavorite garnets. The final design featured her inherited diamond at the centre, between by two vivid Tsavorites, all set in reworked family gold - combining heirloom materials with a new design.

Once the design was finalised, the ring was handcrafted by Behzad, our onsite goldsmith, whose skill and attention to detail ensure every commission is made with care and precision.

Working with customers’ own gold, like Ella’s, is a speciality of Behzad’s. He carefully refines and reuses sentimental materials while maintaining the integrity and quality of the finished piece.

After Behzad had worked his magic, the ring was sent securely to the Assay Office for hallmarking, an official mark of quality that confirms the precious metal content - an important final step in every fine jewellery commission.

What began as a collection of inherited jewellery became a deeply personal new heirloom - designed over afternoon tea, shaped by family stories, and crafted to be worn, loved and passed down again.
