Dawn’s star ruby ring
Some jewellery tells a story long before it reaches our workshop.
Dawn's story began in India, where her son had discovered a beautiful star ruby and brought it home as a gift for her. The unusual gemstone quickly became a treasured possession, and Dawn knew she wanted to transform it into a piece of jewellery she could wear and enjoy every day.
Having worked with us before, she already had a vision in mind.
Over the years, Jo had designed a collection of beautiful pieces for Dawn, and Abi had previously helped design a special ruby pendant. As a result, Dawn had some leftover silver from earlier commissions and was keen to make the most of the precious metal she already owned.
When she met with Abi, they explored different ideas before settling on a bold, chunky silver ring that would perfectly showcase the unique star ruby.
Once the design was finalised, our goldsmith, Behzad, set to work handcrafting the ring using Dawn's own silver. He then carefully hand-set the ruby in our on-site workshop.
Star rubies can be challenging stones to set due to their shape and characteristics, so having an experienced setter is invaluable. We're fortunate to have this expertise within our workshop, allowing us to oversee every stage of the process and ensure each stone is handled with the care it deserves.
After being hallmarked and receiving its final clean and polish, the ring was ready for collection.
The finished piece is striking, contemporary and completely unique - bringing together a treasured gift from Dawn's son, silver from previous commissions, and expert craftsmanship from our workshop.
Most importantly, Dawn absolutely loved it.
And with a little silver still remaining, we can't help but wonder what we'll create together next.
